Rediscovering a Passion

As I have been going through the challenge of trying to be a better wife, I have come to find I am also really trying to be a better me. Talking with my husband today, we were discussing creative outlets. I have been looking for some type of creative means to release some energy and emotion.... that is not eating.

While blogging, baking, crafting, etc. are things I enjoy, I am not always passionate about doing them. I think we all have that one thing that regardless of how we feel, we can go to it as a release. Some people love to run, they run when they are happy, angry, sad, and so on.

That led me to thinking, what is my "thing?"

When I was younger, particularly in my high school years, I wrote poetry and songs all the time! I have always loved to write, anything and everything. I love writing everything from short stories to grocery lists. There is just something about the pen and written word that I love. One of the greatest gifts I ever received was a rhyming dictionary from my sister which to this day I keep with my poetry book.

However, I must say, my poetry book has been sitting on the shelf since I started nursing school. I thought I would get back to it once I graduated, but then I got married, got a job, got a house, and so on.

In conclusion, I have pulled out my poetry book, and I think now is as good a time as any to start picking up on writing poetry. It is something I have always enjoyed, and I can do it anytime. It makes me happy, and a happy me always makes for a better me! Also, it is free! :D

Time to release that inner Emily Dickinson! :D

  1. I am so glad you found your "thing"! I recently picked up journaling and drawing again as a way to process things and it has been so good to go back to something natural and fulfilling!
